What is 7GFUEL?

7GFUEL is the brand name representing a partnership between Carlsun Energy Solutions and First Nations in pursuing hydrogen infrastructure projects throughout Ontario.

Why 7GFUEL?

Canada and Ontario have committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  In order to do this, there needs to be a fundamental shift in our societies energy usage away from fossil fuels.

Researchers at Columbia University, the U.S. Department of Energy and Carnegie Mellon University have found that emissions from alternatives such as natural gas have higher emissions than diesel and can actually cause net damage to the environment due to methane leakage during extraction.

Zero-emission vehicles are the only solution and pathway to achieving the GHG emission reductions the Government has committed to. It’s not a matter of one type of electric vehicle prevailing over the other. Battery-electric vehicles are well suited for light-duty vehicles. Fuel-cell electric vehicles are well positioned to serve medium- and heavy-duty trucks.

Ontario has a low-carbon electricity system and hydrogen produced and sold as 7GFUEL uses this electricity to produce its hydrogen. 7GFUEL is a need solution if we are to meet our GHG obligations.

What’s in a name?

7GFUEL can be broken into two parts 7G and FUEL.  FUEL was chosen because hydrogen is a fuel that can be used in power, transportation and heating applications.  The 7G ahead of FUEL represents our connection to First Nations.  The 7G represents the Seventh Generation Principle that the decisions we make today should result in a sustainable world seven generations into the future.
